Our aim at Ashley Grange Nursing Home is to provide an excellent standard of service in all areas of our business.
Our objectives will help us meet this aim. They are:
The Regulated Activities are:
All residents can choose to remain with their own GP. In practice, the majority of residents choose to register with "The Surgery" in Downton, who have worked with us at Ashley Grange since 1984. All new residents will meet a GP from "The Surgery" within a week (usually within 48 hours) and thereafter weekly or as your care needs require. You and your next of kin will be kept fully informed.
Ashley Grange has a full time Activities Co-ordinator providing many and varied daily activities. These activities are sometimes group and sometimes individual activities, often focusing on a seasonal theme including Valentines, Weddings, Christmas and similar. Each resident has an Activities and Well Being Care Plan in their rooms which records the activities and the outcome for the resident. We encourage families and friends to view and participate in these activities records when visiting.
Many residents participate in the preparation and then enjoyment of the home's parties. We also regularly have visits from outside entertainers and performers. Some of our residents regularly attend local groups including the Fine Arts Society and Good Companions; others also enjoy the mini-bus outings to local attractions.
There are three lounges, a large attractive accessible garden, a book, video and DVD "library" as well as jigsaws and other single player games if you prefer some quiet time.
Read more in "Your Care" and scroll down to the "Activities."
Ashley Grange have an open door policy, you are welcome to visit at any time seven days a week although in practice this is usually between 8am and 9pm! We encourage friends and family to visit and also to participate in the Ashley Grange community as much or as little as they would like. Some families visit daily and spend every lunchtime with us, others join us for afternoon tea and activities, and others just join us for special occasions. Whatever the reasons and however much time you have, you are welcome to pop in or spend the day!
Various TVs are available; however, many residents choose to bring in their own TV. These are PAT tested (Portable Appliance Tested) and then made available for your use in your bedroom. Televisions tend to be on only at the request of the residents, in their rooms, or in the lounge in the evenings. A large flat screen is available in one of the lounges and is used for Wimbledon week, Ascot and other similar events - it is used as a function of an activity.
Some residents choose to have their own personal telephone line installed in their room for their sole use and at their cost. For those residents where this is not an appropriate solution, we will assist the resident to receive telephone calls by taking a handset directly to them.
We do have facilities for a family member to stay overnight in case of an emergency and will always try to accommodate any request.
We would be delighted for well behaved pets to visit us at Ashley Grange however; pets are not normally permitted to stay permanently. If you need any special arrangements for us to support your pet to visit, for example outside space to enjoy a walk or towels for your legs to hold a rabbit we would be happy to help.
We have a mini-bus which is fitted with a hydraulic lift. We utilise the minibus to take regular trips during the summer months to nearby attractions including the New Forest. Our residents are accompanied by the driver and members of the Care Team. Occasionally the minibus is used to transport residents to Hospital for routine appointments where a resident finds it more comfortable than a car.
We can arrange for the newspaper, magazine or publication of your choice to be delivered to the Home. The cost of these items will be charged to your "pocket money" account.
We have excellent links with the local churches in Downton and hold a weekly Communion Service. We also welcome other religious groups and encourage residents to participate as they wish.
We have an excellent team of Nurses, Care staff, housekeepers, administrators and maintenance personnel to ensure your care environment and the care you receive is as it should be; enjoyable, appropriate, caring and with your needs at its heart. We work closely with outside professionals for specialist advice in how we can support your needs including speech and language therapists, dieticians, physiotherapists and specialist mental health practitioners. Please see the "Your Care" page.
Please do not hesitate to phone us, email us or visit us and we will do all we can to answer your questions. We look forward to hearing from you. Click on "Contact Us" for more details on how best to get in touch.
